From first call to first fire

  1. 1Survey

The fireplace, chimney and hearth get looked at properly, the room is measured, and you are told what output actually suits it. Free and without obligation.

  2. 2Written quote

Stove, liner, flue parts, hearth work and labour listed separately, so nothing appears later as an extra.

  3. 3Installation day

Sheeted, lined, set, connected and smoke tested. Most straightforward jobs are done inside a day.

  4. 4Handover and certificate

You are shown how to run it, given the certificate, and the data plate is left at the property for whoever owns the house next.

Sized for the room, not for the brochure

The most common problem with a stove happens before anyone picks up a tool: it is simply too big for the room. It then gets damped down to make the space bearable, which means it burns cool and dirty, tars the liner and brings the sweep back sooner than it should.

We have spent 3+ years cleaning up the consequences of that, which is why he would rather sell you a smaller stove that gets run properly. There is a sizing guide here if you want the rule of thumb before he visits.

The chimney is the other half of the job. Plenty of older flues want lining when a stove goes in, though not every one does, and you will get a straight answer rather than a liner sold as standard.

Common questions

Do I need a flue liner?+

Many older chimneys do, but not all of them. The survey answers it for your chimney and you get a straight answer either way.

Will the installation meet building regulations?+

Stove installations are covered by Document J. We confirm the certification route for your particular job at survey.

Can you take the old fire out?+

Yes. Removing an old fire or back boiler and making good is part of the job.
